Welton Academy (also known as “Hellton” by students) was a prestigious all-boys preparatory school located in Vermont, USA. It was established in 1859 with only forty-one students attending. Of those forty-one, five students graduated that year. By 1959, fifty-one students graduated with 75% of them going on to attend an Ivy League school.
Since it's establishment, Welton Academy only accepts admittance to white boys and men, starting at a young age until they are seventeen-eighteen years of age. It is implied to be an expensive religious private school. As a result, most of the students accepted come from affluent backgrounds with the exception of those who are there with a scholarship, like Neil Perry. It is shown to be a highly competitive and strict boarding school.
The school's motto and pillars are "Tradition, Discipline, Honor, and Excellence." At the start of every school year, four boys are selected to carry banners that have each word of the motto embroidered onto it. The headmaster would then conduct a candlelit ceremony starting with Welton's newly admitted students.
